Department of Small Business Development (DSBD) - Black Business Supplier Development Programme (BBSDP)

This cost-sharing grant focuses on assisting small businesses to improve their competitiveness and sustainability. This grant may only be accessed once in the lifetime of a business.

Funding options

There are two options for the Black Business Supplier Development Programme (BBSDP):

• Cost-sharing grant for tools, machinery and equipment (50:50 cost sharing) up to a maximum of R800 000.
  
• Cost-sharing grant for business services (80:20 cost sharing) up to a maximum of R200 000.
  

Eligibility criteria

In order to apply for this grant, businesses must comply with the following requirements:

• Fifty-one per cent (51%) black majority shareholding.
  
• R250 000 to R35 million turnover per year.
  
• One financial year in operation and trading as a business.
  
• Fifty-one per cent (51%) management positions held by black people (historically disadvantaged individuals).
  
• Formally registered for VAT.
  
• Businesses are eligible to obtain funding for a maximum of R1 million:
  
• R800 000 for tools, machinery and equipment on a 50:50 cost-sharing basis.
• R200 000 for business development and training interventions per eligible enterprise to improve their corporate governance, management, marketing, productivity and use of modern technology on an 80:20 cost-sharing basis.
• Business must have been operating and trading for at least one financial year – at the sole discretion of the DSBD, a business that has been operational/registered for less than a year may be considered for this incentive, provided that the enterprise can supply sufficient evidence that assistance is needed to service a tender or a large contract.
